MINNEAPOLIS, MN (March 18, 2015) – Metro Mold and Design, a Minneapolis-based manufacturer with proven competencies in tackling impossible to manufacture challenges, is partnering with the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) to learn more about what happens when a manufacturing partner fails.
Metro Mold will be a sponsor at IDSA’s southern district conference being held in conjunction with the NPE on March 27, 2015. The company is also issuing a survey to IDSA conference attendees to learn more about where in the process manufacturing failures occur and where OEM’s turn when they realize the product cannot be made.
To enhance functionality, radically reduce costs or create new consumer interest, designers often stretch the boundaries of traditional manufacturing. This often requires using materials that are extremely difficult to process or machine, and tight geometries and tolerances that can make a part impossible to manufacture using traditional manufacturing methods.
Darren Bjork, director of sales for Metro Mold explains, “We know designers get frustrated when a company’s manufacturing partner deems a product impossible to manufacture without compromising the integrity of the design or losing sight of the big picture. Our goal is to learn more about why this happens and how Metro Mold’s radically different approach to manufacturing can help companies whose manufacturing partners hit a wall and put the entire project at risk.”
